Manchester City, Arsenal, Sheffield United and Aston Villa are all set to play twice this Gameweek, so who’s the best FPL Gameweek 30+ captain option?
FPL is back and there is no better way to jump right back into the thick of things than with another Double Gameweek. Man City, Arsenal, Sheffield Utd. and Aston Villa all head into Gameweek 30+ with two scheduled fixtures.
With all the changes it can be difficult to decide who to select for your squad, let alone who to captain. If you haven’t already, head over to our FPL Restart- Everything You Need to Know and FPL Restart – Selecting a Gameweek 30+ Team for a quick rundown of what you need to know ahead of DGW30+.
Due to the unusual circumstances, including the prolonged mid-season break and the DGW, we are going to be playing it safe this week with our picks. However, we are throwing in one maverick pick if you’re really looking for some additional FPL excitement.
As always, be sure to check out our FPL Captaincy Guide for more tips on selecting your FPL captain.
Kevin De Bruyne – ARS (H), BUR (H)
With Manchester City playing twice this week, it is simply impossible to ignore their top assets. And you cannot talk about Man City without talking about the engine that makes them tick. That engine goes by the name of Kevin De Bruyne.
The Belgian international leads all City attackers in points (178) and is second in overall FPL scoring, trailing only Salah by 8 points.
De Bruyne has also been a reliable source of big point hauls for FPL managers this season. Over the course of the season, KDB has returned double digit on 7 different occasions. This includes a massive 19 point (2G, 1A) haul against Arsenal back in GW17.
The condensed schedule and extended break means that no player is fully rotation-proof. However, KDB is about as nailed into the first team as a Man City asset can be. With his near 50% ownership, you can expect De Bruyne to be the most popular FPL Gameweek 30+ captain – and that is good enough by us.
Sergio Aguero – ARS (H), BUR (H)
Undoubtedly the most explosive Man City asset, Sergio Aguero certainly has the potential to be the runaway top scorer for FPL Gameweek 30+.
In his previous 15 appearances against the Gunners, Aguero boasts an incredible record of 11 goals and 2 assists. If that wasn’t convincing enough, his record against his second opponent is even more impressive. In just 7 appearances against Burnley, Aguero has posted a whopping 9 goals.
With the presence of Gabriel Jesus and a tricky schedule, you can expect a lot of rotation from Guardiola’s Manchester City squad. However, even with the looming risk of rotation, the upside that a player of Aguero’s quality offers is unquestionable. This upside makes the Argentinian one of the standout FPL Gameweek 30+ captain options.
Jack Grealish – SHU (H), CHE (H)
With everything that has happened in the last few months, it is easy to forget that some Premier League teams will be coming back into a fierce relegation battle. Aston Villa is sitting at the bottom of the table, but with a Double Gameweek ahead, they have a real opportunity to turn the tides. No one will be more motivated to make that happen than Jack Grealish.
It would be foolish to tell you that Grealish is a better captaincy pick than KDB or Aguero. However, no one can deny that Grealish is the most important and prolific player in the Aston Villa squad. And if Villa is to get out of the relegation battle, then you can bet that Grealish will be involved. Matches against Sheffield United and Chelsea will not be easy, but the home advantage should help.
It has been a bizarre year so far, so we’re nominating Grealish as our bizarre FPL Gameweek 30 captain pick.
Our Pick: Kevin De Bruyne
It is a real toss up between Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero this week. Both players feature for a strong Man City side with favorable Double Gameweek match ups. However, given the circumstances, both are a rotation risk and it is impossible to differentiate either by form.
We’re going to go with De Bruyne for our FPL Gameweek 30+ captain simply due to his consistency over the course of the season. Although he offers a slightly lower ceiling than his Argentinian teammate, he ends up being a safer selection due to his high ownership. If you are trying to play it cautious, KDB is your guy.
If you want a more offensive captaincy pick then you cannot go wrong with Aguero. Who doesn’t love an Aguero hat trick?
