With both Manchester City and Arsenal playing twice this Gameweek, we look at your top FPL Gameweek 29 captain options.
When it comes to playing FPL, you never really know what kind of week you’re going to get. Just a week ago, FPL managers were licking their lips at the prospect of Liverpool running at the Watford defense, and the likes of Jamie Vardy lighting up Norwich City. However, excitement quickly turned to agony on the weekend, as both teams failed to score in favorable match ups. The result was the lowest average Gameweek score so far this season (26).
As managers were putting a difficult Gameweek behind them, @OfficialFPL announced that the Manchester City vs. Arsenal match has been moved to this Gameweek. This means that both teams will have a Double Gameweek (DGW) in Gameweek 29. The news sent FPL managers into a buying frenzy, with FPL managers trying to decide which DGW players to bring in. Amid the chaos it is worth remembering that both teams will blank in BGW31.
So are Manchester City and Arsenal players the only viable FPL Gameweek 29 captain options? Not necessarily…

Kevin De Bruyne – MUN (A), ARS (H)
As the standout FPL Gameweek 29 captain option from Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne is the only cemented offensive player in Pep’s starting XI. This season’s leading FPL scorer (178 points) is the center of City’s potent offense, and will look to extend his points lead with two matches this week (Manchester United and Arsenal).
De Bruyne’s returns over the last 4 weeks also suggest that the Belgian is in fine form. With 1 goal, 2 assists, 3 clean sheets and 4 bonus points, FPL managers have been rewarded with 26 points over the period. That includes an explosive 14 point return against West Ham in Gameweek 26.
A match against Arsenal also raises the prospect of another big haul. In the 9 games played against the Gunners, De Bruyne has scored 4 goals and added 3 assists. Most importantly, KDB returned a season-high 19 points (2 goals, 1 assist) against Arsenal in the reverse fixture earlier this year.
It is worth mentioning that De Bruyne did miss the mid-week FA cup match with news of a potential injury. FPL managers should monitor the situation closely. However, even if he only manages to play Arsenal next week, De Bruyne still offers an excellent FPL Gameweek 29 captain option.
Mohamed Salah – BOU (H)
Despite Liverpool playing only once this week, Mohamed Salah is still an explosive FPL Gameweek 29 captain pick.
While the Liverpool offense has fizzled out in the last couple of weeks, Salah himself is still in fine form. With 3 goals in his last 4 games, the Egyptian has shown that he remains a serious goal threat even when his team is not in top form.
A match up against a struggling Bournemouth side could very well propel Salah back to the top of the FPL points standings. In fact, Salah has been an absolute menace to the Cherries, scoring 7 goals and 1 assist in just 5 games. That spells trouble for a Bournemouth side who has conceded at least 2 goals in each of their last 3 games.
It is uncommon territory for Mohamed Salah to be considered a differential captain. However, with a large percentage of top FPL managers flocking to Arsenal and City players, Salah could very well be the standout differential FPL Gameweek 29 captain.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – WHU (H), MCI (A)
A rare combination of exceptional form and enticing fixtures raise the prospects for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the top FPL Gameweek 29 captain option.
Indeed, Aubameyang has been absolutely on-fire since returning from his 3 game suspension. Over the last two game weeks alone, the Arsenal star has found the back of the net three times, collecting an additional 5 bonus points in the process. For FPL managers, that resulted in a mouthwatering 21 FPL points in two weeks.
And while a game away to Manchester City may not offer too many returns, an earlier kickoff with West Ham still suggests plenty of points potential. Look for Aubameyang to attack a Hammers defense which has averaged over 2 goals against in their last 5 games, and sits near the bottom of the table for goals conceded this season. The forward will also look to replicate his earlier success this season, where he scored once and added an assist for a 12 point return against West Ham in Gameweek 16.
Boasting form, fixture and DGW points potential, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is an exceptional FPL Gameweek 29 captain option.
Our Pick: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Despite a Double Gameweek for Arsenal and Manchester City, the captaincy decision couldn’t be more difficult this week. However, when taking everything into consideration, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang emerges as our standout FPL Gameweek 29 captain pick.
De Bruyne’s recent injury news casts a shadow of doubt over his ability to play this weekend, reducing his appeal as the top captaincy candidate.
And while Salah offers plenty of haul potential against Bournemouth, the team has not been firing on all cylinders lately. Liverpool have not scored a single goal in their last two games at Watford and Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Aubameyang has been on a great run of form recently having scored 3 goals in his last 2 games. He faces a struggling West Ham side against which he has seen success in the past. A bonus match against Man City also provides an additional opportunity to accumulate points.
