With FPL Gameweek 27 all wrapped up, managers have been quick to jump on the past gameweek’s top performers. Recent Manchester United signing Bruno Fernandes tops the list of most-transferred in players after a massive haul on the weekend, while struggling Leicester forward Jamie Vardy follows closely as a result of an enticing Norwich fixture ahead. With all the recent Vardy transfers, FPL managers should be reminded that both form and fixture should be considered when selecting an FPL Gameweek 28 captain.
Blank fixtures for Manchester City, Aston Villa, Sheffield United and Arsenal means FPL managers have a smaller pool of captaincy options this week. However, there are still plenty of options to consider as managers devise creative solutions to propel their respective ranks.
Be sure to check out our FPL Captaincy Guide for more tips on selecting your FPL captain.
Mohamed Salah – WAT (A)
With another goal Monday night against West Ham, Mohamed Salah has continued his fine run of form. Over the last four games, Salah has scored 4 goals and added an assist, for a total of 40 FPL points.
His record against Watford suggests that he is in for another big points haul this weekend. In 5 previous meetings against the Hornets, the Egyptian boasts a jaw-dropping record of 8 goals and 2 assists. That includes an incredible 2 goal, 16 point performance in Gameweek 17. With Liverpool pushing to secure the league title and Mo chasing the Golden boot, expect big points again from the Liverpool winger.
Form, fixture and total ownership means that Salah will probably be the most selected FPL Gameweek 28 captain.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – WAT (A)
While the Liverpool duo of Mane and Salah will almost certainly dominate the captaincy this week, it is worth looking at Trent Alexander-Arnold as a differential captaincy option.
In fact, you could argue that no player has been better and more consistent over the last 11 gameweeks than Trent. Over that span, the young fullback has produced either an attacking return or a clean sheet in every game. To put it in FPL terms, that’s a total of 95 points (1 goal, 7 assists, 8 clean sheets, 12 bonus) for an average of 8.63 points per game.
If you’re looking for a cheeky Liverpool differential with great stats then there is no better option than Trent. He is a fantastic FPL Gameweek 28 captain option.
Raul Jimenez – TOT (A)
If you’re looking for a non-Liverpool FPL Gameweek 28 captain then we suggest that you consider Raul Jimenez as your leading candidate.
Over the last 5 weeks, Jimenez has looked sharp notching 4 goals and collecting 5 bonus, good for 30 points. While perhaps not as explosive as the others on this list, the Mexican international has been a force in FPL this year. Currently, Jimenez ranks third among forwards with an impressive 138 FPL points, courtesy of 12 goals and 6 assists.
A match up against a susceptible Spurs team also raises the prospects of returns. In fact, over the 4 games he has played against Tottenham, Jimenez has produced 2 goals and 2 assists.
With other non-Liverpool players either lacking form or fixture, we believe that Raul Jimenez can be a viable FPL Gameweek 28 captain.
Our Pick: Mohamed Salah
With a lot of the top premiums either blanking or out of form, it is difficult to choose anyone outside a Liverpool player. While Salah and TAA are both excellent picks, we’re going to go with the Egyptian again this week. The concern we have with Trent is the dependency on a clean sheet for a haul. As we saw last week, even a struggling team like West Ham can come out and score a couple of goals against Liverpool. A pair of attacking returns from Salah (especially with his record against Watford) feels more likely, hence our selection.
