Gameweek 25 was a real feast or famine for FPL captaincy. With nearly all premium assets blanking, FPL managers who were fortunate enough to captain Mohamed Salah likely saw a significant rank rise over the weekend. On the flip side, managers who put their faith in forwards Sergio Aguero and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were unlucky to come away without a result. Despite the captaincy frustrations, we now turn our attention to the FPL Gameweek 26 captain options.
Be sure to check out our FPL Captaincy Guide for more tips on selecting your FPL captain.
Mohamed Salah – NOR (A)
Mohamed Salah stole the spotlight in Gameweek 25 with a massive 16 point haul, rewarding the 1,973,000 owners who placed the armband on the Egyptian.
With two more goals on the weekend, Salah has continued his strong form over the last month. In fact, over the last four gameweeks he has produced four goals, one assist, three clean sheets and accumulated six bonus points for a total of 39 points. The last two gameweeks alone he has produced 30 FPL points.
Facing off against Norwich further raises his appeal as your FPL Gameweek 26 captain. Norwich has conceded more goals than any other Premier League side this season. Furthermore, in the reverse fixture earlier this year, Salah scored a goal and assisted another for a total of 12 points. Needless to say, Salah is probably the most clear-cut captain pick for Gameweek 26.
Sergio Aguero – WHU (H)
Despite frustrating nearly 670,000 FPL managers with a blank last week, Sergio Aguero enters this week as a viable and enticing captaincy option.
Hosting a West Ham side which has struggled to keep balls out of the back of their net (43), Aguero and his Manchester City teammates will look to put a frustrating game against Tottenham behind them.
With 16 goals on the season and six in his last 4 games, the Argentinian is still the most explosive Man City attacker. Aguero also really enjoyed playing the Hammers. In the 16 games against West Ham he has scored 10 goals and assisted an additional two. Moreover, Aguero scored in the reverse fixture earlier this year.
While rotation is always a concern with Man City assets, the opportunity for big points makes Aguero a tempting FPL Gameweek 26 captain option.
Heung-Min Son – AVL (A)
Managers who want to take a differential approach should consider Heung-Min Son for Gameweek 26.
While Spurs have struggled to keep any consistent form over the course of the season, Son has been the most threatening and reliable FPL asset. Now, with back-to-back goals, Son will look to continue his scoring form with a trip to a struggling Aston Villa. Indeed, the Villans are joint worst for goals conceeded in the Premier League this season.
Although not a safe choice, Son offers a differential FPL Gameweek 26 captain pick with both form and fixture. FPL managers who are looking to make a big jump might consider this high-risk, high-reward option.
Our Pick: Mohamed Salah
In our mind, Mohamed Salah is still the standout pick as the FPL Gameweek 26 captain. With both incredible form and fixture, there is no real reason to look beyond the Egyptian King.
While Sergio Aguero offers equally explosive attacking potential, there is still the unknown risk of rotation. Similarly, Son’s attacking threat is counterbalanced by Spur’s unpredictability.
