FPL Gameweek 25 Captain Options

After a long and eventful Gameweek 24, FPL managers will be eager to put a frustrating couple of weeks behind them. Injuries to prominent FPL assets like Sadio Mane, Jamie Vardy and Marcus Rashford have shaken up the FPL landscape and left FPL managers searching for answers. As managers scramble to patch up and stabilize their teams, we look at the top FPL Gameweek 25 captain options.

Mohamed Salah – SOU (H)

Playing both the role of hero and villain for Gameweek 24, Mohamed Salah rewarded FPL managers who entrusted him with their captaincy and frustrated those who opted for his Senegalese counterpart.

A goal, an assist and three bonus points was good enough to return 14 FPL points against West Ham, for a total of 16 points for the week. In fact, over the last four games Salah has been in fine form with two goals and an assist for a total of 29 points.

His record against Southampton suggests that the points could continue to flow for his FPL owners. Indeed, Salah has returned five goals and an assist in the five games he has played against the Saints. To put it in perspective, he has only scored more goals against four other clubs.

And now with his teammate Mane out injured, there should be no concern regarding his rotation. Coupled with his recent form, Salah is a reliable FPL Gameweek 25 captain option with a lot of upside. In fact, we expect him to come out as the most captained player for Gameweek 25.

Sergio Aguero – TOT (A)

Given how long of a Gameweek it has been, it is easy to forget how incredible Sergio Aguero has been in recent weeks.

With six goals and an assist in the last three games, Aguero has produced an astonishing 37 FPL points. That is an average of over 12 points a game over that span. More incredibly, he didn’t even start his last game against Sheffield United – he came on as a substitute and still bagged a goal in only 23 minutes of game time.

Aguero now walks into a game against Spurs, a team who looks lost and a team who he has feasted upon in the past. In fact, his record against Tottenham is incredible: 12 goals and 4 assists in 17 games.

Rotation is always a concern when talking about Man City assets but FPL managers should be encouraged by the reduced minutes he played against the Blades. Moreover, it would be dangerous to ignore the man’s form both in recent games and against his upcoming opposition. This makes Aguero a high risk, high reward captain option for Gameweek 25.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – BUR (A)

Coming off a two game suspension following a red card against Crystal Palace, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should have been flying under the radar this week. However, due to injuries to Vardy, Mane and Rashford, many managers have made a switch to Aubameyang and put the Arsenal talisman into the spotlight

Prior to his suspension, Aubameyang was in good form with three goals in his previous four games – good enough for 22 FPL points in that stretch. While nothing to write home about for his price tag, he does enter this week facing a team he has thrived against in the past. Indeed, in the last four games against Burnley, Aubameyang has scored seven times and supplied an assist. That includes a goal which he scored in the reverse fixture earlier this year.

With strong supporting statistics and a relatively low ownership, Aubameyang offers a differential captain pick for FPL Gameweek 25.

Our pick – Sergio Aguero

While you can make a strong case for any of the three above, our choice would be Sergio Aguero. A player in exceptional form, facing a team that is in trouble, which he has thrived against in the past is a combination that is too hard to pass up on. We’re concerned about the rotation risk but the upside is too high to look past.
