Jamie Vardy (A – BUR)
Facing a BUR team in free fall, Jamie Vardy looks to get back into the goals against a defense that has conceded two or more in their last 3 games. While some FPL managers will point to his poor recent form, it is worth noting that two of those games he missed due to the birth of his daughter and a light injury. Before that, Vardy was an automatic captaincy pick for 12 weeks straight, securing 6 double digit hauls in the process.
While his form against BUR specifically has not been anything spectacular (4G, 2A in 12 games) he remains a strong captaincy choice this week. With a high effective ownership, it would be no surprise to see Vardy come out as the most captained player for GW23.
Kevin De Bruyne (H – CRY)
With 5 attacking returns (1G, 4A) in his last 4 games – including a massive 14 pts against SHU in GW 20 – Kevin De Bruyne is an obvious captain candidate for this week. Despite facing a stingy CRY defense which has conceded no more than a single goal in their last five games, KDB’s record suggests that he can still do some serious damage. In his 8 games against CRY, De Bruyne has registered 3G and 8A. Coupled with a high points ceiling (6 double digit returns on the season) and excellent recent form, KDB is a standout captaincy pick for GW23.
Sergio Aguero (H – CRY)
Following last weekend’s 6-1 thrashing of AVL, Sergio Aguero ranks as strong captaincy option for FPL managers who have been savvy enough to add the Argentinian. His 3G, 1A against AVL resulted in a massive 20 point haul, easily his best showing of the season. Coming off an injury which has kept him out of the lineup for a long time, Aguero is also owned by less than 15% of FPL managers. As such, he offers a high potential differential pick which can propel managers who are brave enough to take the leap of faith.
Danny Ings (H – WOL)
With 5G in his last 5 games, FPL managers are starting to come around to the idea that Danny Ings is a legitimate captaincy option. While only hitting double digits once this season (2G, 13 pts against AVL) the appeal with Ings is his consistency. Indeed, nearly every time he scores, he picks up an additional 3 BPS which is good enough for a steady flow of 9 points. Not bad for a player who’s total of 14 goals is only bettered by the 17 of Vardy. His record against WOL is also positive, with 2G, 1A in 4 games played. While not as explosive as some of his counterparts, Ings is an excellent FPL Gameweek 23 captain choice for those looking for a path less traveled.
